Suncor Energy is a Canadian integrated energy company based in Calgary, Alberta. It specializes in the production of synthetic crude from oil sands. Suncor ranks number 134 in the Forbes Global 2000 list. Until 2010, Suncor marketed products and services to retail customers in Ontario through a downstream network of 280 company-owned, and 200 customer-operated retail and Diesel fuel sites, primarily in Ontario under the Sunoco brand (owing to Suncor having originally been established as a subsidiary of Sunoco). In 2009, Suncor acquired the former Crown corporation Petro-Canada, which replaced the Sunoco brand across its existing outlets. Suncor also markets through a retail network of Shell and ExxonMobil branded outlets in Colorado.
Suncor is an unsafe place to work and lacks safety meetings, an ex operator wrote a review at indeed.com
"Unsafe Place to Work. Very rushed, unsafe operational behavior, Inexperienced CSU team, made many errors on the Safety side. Haven't had a safety meeting in months and actually canceled them to get to first oil sooner."
Current Employee - Refinery Maintenance says"There are no training or advancement programs. The influx of multiple managers has everyone job scared and hesitant to make decisions. Hiring and promotions are based on favoritism. There is rampant discrimination at the U.S. refinery."

Current Employee - Maintenance Technician says"Too many managers at US refinery(mainly Canadian), still voice the safety first motto, but push production before all else. Little concern over working people long hours or under adverse conditions. Safety incidents are not reported or falsified to ensure manager bonuses. Starting to fade from the work/life balance, and expectiing folks to work longer hours. Promotion and hiring of unqualified or incompotent leaders, becuase they don't question authority and have low moral value."

Construction Coordinator (Former Employee) says"You are a number and nothing more. Any wage , benefit or perk you have when you start can be removed or cut back at anytime with no notice. Changes can be made to your work scope , hours of work or work location with no discussion or negotiation. I worked for them on and off for about 20 years and things have steadily gone down hill for employees"

I am very surprise he is still working there. He prides himself to hire and fire independent contractor.Suncor is one of the global leader in the oil and gas industry, I was so proud working there although it was such a short period of time.Not my lucky days under the supervision of that guy."
Pricess operator (Former Employee) says"So this is for the suncor port moody terminal. First off starting wage is 33$/he so I'll save you some time with that info. So I went for an in person interview with these clowns and I know they wanted to hire me but I turned it down as I was already making more money with my then long time employer. So without my consent or any regard for my privacy, these goofs decided to ask a salesman at our Delta location about me. I work in the north van plant and this guy knows absolutely nothing about me but they thought it was ok. It was not. He proceeded to tell my big boss at my plant who then relayed it to my supervisor who thought he was pretty smart and tells me "so we know about suncor". This didn't matter as it made my day telling him I took a new position with another company anyways. The bottom line is Suncor had no regard for my privacy or the situation they put me in with my now old employer. The most unprofessional thing I've ever seen or heard of. Dont work for these guys. They dont care about you or what awkward position they put you in. Thank God I turned down the job.Nothing"

Poluted Air in the plant buildings-some employees get Sick from Exposure. Saw my workmates get sick and have to go to the Fort McMurray hospital -where they Downplay everything-every ailment, every Injury. Alot of DRUG USE and Alcoholic Drinking at Suncor. Then treated at Fort Mac hospital -THEN FIRED -LAID OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Massive Infections up on the Suncor plant-Millenium Mine due to Toxic air, water, contaminated environment! A cut in your hand will Instantly become Infected -antibiotics, and hard core drugs to get rid of the Infection. Saw my fellow employees get Injuries due to DRUG USE! Not knowing what they were DOING!!!!!!!!! Some Almost KILLED!!!!! DRUGS are EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!! Heavey Alcoholic Drinking. Employees -HUNG OVER-Acting Stupid. Unsafe to Work With. UNSAFE PLACE TO WORK. YOU WILL GET INJURED, HURT, and COULD DIE Working At SUNCOR!!!!!!!!!!!NOTHING. Anyone who complains or stands up for themselves is terminated. They have no decent safety program and anybody with an ounce of talent or self-respect leaves as soon as they find something better. The Supervisors/Managers have almost no ability to lead or brave enough to make positive changes. Directors and VPs were only slightly better. They all make $120k up, so they are all to fearful of losing their jobs, should they decide to speak up. There is NO professional development for most employees and it is an environment of clock-punching hamsters in their runs, going nowhere. HR doesn't respond to serious issues for the same reason - fearful of being fired for correcting anything.None. I enjoyed a downtown location. That is all.Organization as a whole lies, at all levels. The CEO gets paid millons annually but so many employees struggle under $50k."

As a tradesman, they put no faith in your knowledge, experience and ability, and give no work actually performing your trade. The negative aura just walking through the gate is enough to make the day miserable before it starts."

The face to face engagement with all levels from craft to management allowed us to be a part of the plan, collaboration and productive path forward. The success of the project depends on this ground level to top level team approach. I was the productivity lead for the Fort Hills site which allowed direct interaction and influence on all levels and disciplines."

Current Employee says"For new employees, Suncor is probably a good place to start as there are a lot of opportunities to move around and learn a number of new careers. But...I recommend not planning to stay for long. Favouritism, ageism, and discrimination against women are rampant; senior leaders are blind to the poor behaviours and incompetent leadership of many mid-level leaders; and the processes for raising legitimate issues or complaints are completely broken. Suncor talks about caring for \"each other and the environment\" - I\'ll give them credit for trying to make improvements for the environment but their culture of \"caring\" comes across as completely insincere. "
Alan says"We are a business customer who passed 1/2 a million through them last year. Went into Carindale in Qld. Not allowed to pass go until i logged into a concierge who allowed me to continue to the teller ( Plural), sat down for 10 min while teller walked to the front, to the back, to her desk, to the front again, to the back. Customer at her table. At this stage i went to the concierge to ask what was going on? Asked her why the bad service for the 4 waiting customers and no help for this poor teller? I explained that i have already moved my 5 insurances, my auxiliary banking, and went elsewhere for my my credit card, home and bushiness vehicle loans due to terrible face to face service at this branch before. Blond lady didn't care one bit, said oh well. I said i was going to comment online. She said ok sarcastically . So i just left. Went to my auxiliary bank literally next door and was out with my cash in under 4 minutes. How does this company stay in operation. Absolutely pathetic response. I will be revising our last three accounts with these jokers."
